Alison Brown Brings Her Groundbreaking Banjo Sound to The Jackson Theatre October 16.

GRAMMY Award-winning musician Alison Brown will perform at The Jackson Theatre on Friday, October 16, at 7pm.

Known as one of roots music’s most innovative banjo players, Brown has expanded the possibilities of the instrument by blending bluegrass with jazz, folk, pop, classical and Latin influences. Billboard praised her playing as having “a unique sonic signature and an inescapable beauty,” while USA Today called her a “true ground-breaker” who is opening new possibilities for the banjo.

Brown began her musical career as a teenager in Southern California’s bluegrass scene before earning a degree from Harvard University and an MBA from UCLA. After working as an investment banker, she left the financial world to pursue music full time and has since built a career as a GRAMMY-winning musician, GRAMMY-nominated producer and co-founder of Compass Records Group.

Her work has received national recognition from NPR, CBS Sunday Morning, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and other major outlets. She has also appeared on programs including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The View.

Brown recently collaborated with fellow GRAMMY Award-winning banjoist Steve Martin on the album Safe, Sensible and Sane. The project features guest appearances from Jackson Browne, Vince Gill, the Indigo Girls, Tim O’Brien, Jason Mraz, Della Mae and others.

Audiences can hear Alison Brown live at The Jackson Theatre, located at 121 W. Main Street in downtown Jonesborough, on October 16 at 7pm.
