2024 Storytown Radio Show Fundraising Campaign

Help Us Meet Our Goal of $3,600.00

Since 2011, the StoryTown Radio Show has shared the stories of people living right here in Northeast Tennessee. Some have spent their whole lives in this region and others have traveled from afar, but they all call these mountains home now. This live, one-hour production is performed in the style of a 1930s radio show. These tales highlight the unique character of Jonesborough and East Tennessee. In addition to the great storytelling fun and heartwarming nostalgia, the show also brings in the best music acts in the region, featuring a variety of country, jazz, rock, bluegrass, and old-time music. These live shows are then transformed into a podcast that is streamed around the globe with listeners in Australia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. 2024 is the 13th season for the Radio Show, and we feel lucky about it, thanks to listeners and viewers like you.

There have been some changes in StoryTown land, and 2024 will be a rebuilding year for the Radio Show, but we are committed to bringing you 9 top caliber shows for only $10.00 a show. (A bargain in the live entertainment field!) It takes a lot of work and many hands to preserve these precious stories and share them with you. We have editing, sound engineering, stage management, music, and podcast hosting fees. This amounts to $950.00 per episode, for 9 live shows. If you’ve loved the stories, the music, and the heart in these real and local stories, please be part of our future. How does your contribution support the Radio Show? $2 Shows us some much needed love, $10 Covers one ticket, $25 Covers our sound effects (essential for an authentic radio show), $50 Covers one-month of Podcast hosting, $75 Covers the local writers who contribute their work, $150 Covers Sound Engineering for one show, $500 Covers Podcast hosting for an entire year, and $950 Covers all costs for one entire show (editing, sound engineering, music, stage management), $8,550 Covers the cost of all radio shows for 2024.

Jonesborough Veterans Affairs

Jonesborough’s Veterans Affairs Committee was instrumental in working with the Town to develop our Veterans Park at the Jonesborough Visitor Center. The groundbreaking ceremony on the Jonesborough Veterans Park was conducted in November 1999. The Park was completed and dedicated in May 2000. The Park was constructed to honor Washington County Military Veterans who have served in the United State Military from 1776 through the current date. The park underwent a major renovation in 2009 with the addition of a granite water feature and space for an additional 720 bricks. Currently +1,600 bricks reside in the park honoring our military veterans. The Veterans Affairs Committee also hosts many community events honoring veterans every year with a Memorial Day Ceremony in May and Veterans Day Tribute in November. The care of Veterans Park and the annual ceremonies are supported through donations.

Jonesborough Paws in Blue Fundraiser

Jonesborough Paws in Blue, Inc. is a 501©3 organization formed in the fall of 2017 to support the Jonesborough Department of Public Safety’s K-9 Program. At the time of organization, Jonesborough had one K-9 with a real need for four so there could be a trained dog on duty with every shift of officers. Since organization, the goal of four K-9’s has been reached as a result of the generous people of Jonesborough. Jonesborough Paws in Blue, Inc. continues to raise funds to support the K-9 program to purchase food for the dogs, supplements that are required, needed equipment and training, pay vet bills and recertification of the K-9’s and their handlers. Our “senior” K-9 is Loki and he is 10 years old, the normal age of retirement of police dogs. As a result, we are also raising funds to replace Loki when he retires. The addition of another police dog, including training of the dog and handler, costs $15,000-$18,000. 100% of the funds we raise go to support the dogs and replacement of dogs as needed.

Jonesborough Flag Adoption Program

The Town of Jonesborough, the oldest in Tennessee, flies flags from the street light poles in the Historic Business District. The flags are flown in demonstration of our support for the US Military and our love of country. Our goal is to fly these flags continuously as long as the United States has troops in harms way. As a way to cover the cost of the flags, the town’s Flag Committee offers the opportunity to individuals to adopt a flag that is flown on one of these poles. If someone adopts a flag they can dedicate it to an individual or group and a plaque is displayed on the pole where the flag is flown.

Since that time, Music on the Square has provided live concerts featuring a variety of genres ranging from Americana, Bluegrass, Celtic, Irish, Old-Time, Blues and Jazz. Local and regional bands, storytellers, poets and performance artists create the weekly line-up of live entertainment.
